After the movie “The Girl” we watched in 2018, Lucas Dont’s new movie “Close” deals with the difficulties of transition from childhood to adolescence. The movie follows the close relationship of two 13-year-old friends, Leo and Remy. Unable to understand what happened when their friendship suddenly falls apart, Leo decides to seek advice from Remy’s mother, Sophie. The main idea for the movie came when Dont realized that while visiting his old elementary school, he still harbors feelings of his own tough years. He wanted to express and write these feelings as a movie. He wrote words such as friendship, intimacy, fear, masculinity, and the movie “Close” emerged from these words. In a way, Leo and Remy both felt that they had a part of themselves. Close was an Oscar nominee for Belgium.
