In Barkley Cove, a small town in North Carolina, wild rumors arise about a “swamp girl”. Kya, who at the age of ten had to learn to live in the swamp after being abandoned by her parents, is not the wild girl it is said to be. His life is changed forever when he meets Tate, who teaches him to read and write and introduces him to poetry. However, Tate soon leaves her. After all this time, Kya is seen as the prime suspect in Tate’s death.
